About the Author

Dr Peter Chen is a Research Associate with the National Centre for Australian Studies, part of the Faculty of Arts at Monash University.

Originally from Brisbane, Peter obtained his undergraduate qualifications in commercial management and public sector administration from Griffith University. While undertaking his doctorate in political science and public policy at The Australian National University, Peter worked on media regulation policy development associated with the emergent phenomenon of the internet.

Peter has professional experience in the public and private sectors. He has worked in policy development in the areas of telecommunications, the implications of demographic change for youth policy and law enforcement. In private consulting he worked on IT implementation and business process re-engineering as part of the Commonwealth’s Networking the Nation project, focusing on systems procurement, website development and eCommerce for local governments.

In the field of electronic democracy, Peter served as the Inquiry Consultant for the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into Electronic Democracy in 2004-05 and is co-author of Electronic Democracy? The Impact of New Communications Technology on Australian Democracy, part of the Democratic Audit of Australia focussed audits series (2006).
