About the Author

Jennifer Craik is Professor of Communication and Cultural Studies, School of Creative Communication at the University of Canberra and Adjunct Professor of Fashion and Textiles at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Her email: Jennifer.Craik@canberra.edu.au.

Professor Craik is a member of the Scientific Committee for International Cultural Policy Research which organises a biennial conference on cultural policy. She also is a member of ConnectCP, an online listing of international cultural policy experts. As a researcher, she investigates a number of areas of cultural studies and cultural policy, including arts and cultural policy, tourism, media, and fashion and dress. Her publications include Uniforms Exposed: From Conformity to Transgression (Berg, Oxford and New York, 2005), The Face of Fashion: Cultural Studies in Fashion (Routledge, London and New York, 1994); Resorting to Tourism: Cultural Policies for Tourist Development in Australia (Allen & Unwin, Sydney, 1991); Public Voices, Private Interests: Australia’s Media Policy (co-edited with J. J. Bailey and A. Moran) (Allen & Unwin, Sydney, 1994); and Cultural Policy Case Studies (ed.) (Australian Key Centre for Cultural and Media Policy Studies, Griffith University, Brisbane 1997).

She edited the journal, Culture and Policy, between 1990 and 1996 and is a member of the editorial/advisory boards of a number of international journals: Journal of Sustainable Tourism; Journal of Culture and Communication; Southern Review; Space and Culture; Tourist Studies; Museums Online; Leisure Studies; and Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change.

Currently, Jennifer Craik is completing a book on Fashion: The Key Concepts for Berg Publishers.
