A Land & Water Australia Innovation Grant (ANU58) provided the main funding for the research underpinning this book. The Colonial Foundation Trust through the Drug Policy Modelling Program provided additional funding for searching out cases. A substantial amount of Gabriele Bammer’s contribution to the writing of this book was undertaken while she was a Visiting Scholar at the Competence Centre Environment and Sustainability, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, in April and May 2007.
During the development of this project, we benefited from suggestions and critical insights provided by Lorrae van Kerkhoff and Alice Roughley. Valuable comments on a first draft were received from Lorrae and Alice, as well as from Wendy Gregory, Carolyn Hendriks, Gerald Midgley, Christian Pohl, Alison Ritter and Dan Walker. Caryn Anderson provided valuable comments on a later draft and on the index.
David McDonald searched out the dialogue tools and wrote the bulk of the descriptions and case studies. Gabriele Bammer conceptualised the study, teased out the elements of research integration and wrote the introductory and most of the concluding sections. Peter Deane hunted out case studies and sifted through what he found to develop a short list, which he and David then selected from. All three were involved in organising and refining the book. All links to electronic material were checked at time of publication.
